As the writing on this old scanned photo says this is the Drawing Room. This is part of a collection of photos taken in 1898 before the fire. The wall with the large opening in, is where the current pillars are - so the drawing room was split into 2 smaller rooms back then. The fireplace you can see through the opening is where the present fireplace is - conservatory is to its right. You can just see the door on the left (behind the folded screen) which goes to the central hall. The large painting to the left of the opening, you can just tell is of a woman, looks very similar to the large one presently in the drawing room, but is not actually the same painting. And although this was before the fire I believe this painting was still in the house in 1984 before we moved in.
